- Established Department of Competition Administration under the Ministry of Trade (now is the Ministry of Industry and Trade).

2004

- Established Viet Nam Competition Authority.
- On December 3rd 2004, at the sixth Session of the 11th National Assembly, the Law on Competition (Law No. 27/2004/QH11) was passed by the National Assembly.

- Competition Law 2004 officially came into effect in July 2005.

2006

- The Government issued Decree No. 06/ND-CP regulating the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of Viet Nam Competition Authority (VCA) and Viet Nam Competition Council (VCC);.

2007

- The VCA initiates the first investigation on anti-competitive case.
- Established a representative office in Ho Chi Minh City.

2008
|
- Establish Center for Competition and Information Department (CCID) under the VCA.

2009
|
- The VCA establishes a branch office in Danang City and Training Center for Investigators

2011
|
- From July 1, 2011, the Law on Protection of Consumer Rights officially took effect

2013
|
- The Ministry of Industry and Trade issues Decision No. 848/QD-BCT defining the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of Viet Nam Competition Authority.

2017
|
- Viet Nam Competition and Consumer Authority was established (separated from the Viet Nam Competition Authority). The functions, duties, powers and organizational structure of the VCCA are specified in Decision No.3808/QD-BCT of the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued on October 2, 2017.

- The Government issued Decree No. 03/2023/ND-CP stipulating the functions, tasks, powers, and organizational structure of the National Competition Commission (as known as VCC – Vietnam Competition Commission)
